Joseph F. Kennedy

Designer and natural builder Joseph F. Kennedy has taught natural building, design, and other ecological practices at sustainability education centers in the US and abroad, including New College of California, Santa Rosa, California; Ecovillage Training Center at The Farm, Summertown, Tennessee; Black Range Lodge, Kingston, New Mexico; Tlholego Learning Centre, Rustenburg, South Africa; and California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture (Cal-Earth), Hesperia, California.

In 1999 Joseph cofounded Builders Without Borders, an international organization of natural builders and architects who help villagers worldwide design and build their own low-cost, earth-friendly housing. He served as Executive Director until 2003.

Joseph edited The Art of Natural Building: Design, Construction, Resources, with natural builder colleagues Michael G. Smith and Catherine Wanek (New Society Publishers, 2004), and Building Without Borders: Sustainable Construction for the Global Village (New Society Publishers, 2001). He is currently writing The Village: The Renaissance of a Timeless Way of Living. He is Assistant Editor for The Last Straw Journal. With Catherine Wanek he created the Home on Earth video series and served as associate producer for the award-winning first video in the series, The Straw Bale Solution.

Joseph is principal of Village Renaissance, Santa Rosa, California, and Living Earth Design in New Mexico. He has a Masters Degree in Architecture from the University of Southern California.
